How do you use a laundromat for the first time? Sort your laundry at home before you arrive, load your payment card at the kiosk when you get there, select your machine, choose your settings, add detergent, and start. At Village Car Wash & Laundromat in Farmington, NH โ no quarters are needed. Cash, credit/debit, EBT, and mobile pay all accepted.
What to Bring to the Laundromat
- Your laundry โ pre-sorted into lights, darks, and delicates at home before you leave
- Laundry detergent โ liquid or pods work best in front-load machines. Bring a pre-measured amount.
- Fabric softener or dryer sheets โ optional but helpful for static and softness
- Payment โ cash, credit/debit card, EBT card, or mobile pay. No quarters needed at Village.
- Something to do โ a full wash and dry cycle takes 45โ75 minutes
Step-by-Step โ Your First Laundromat Visit
- Go to the loyalty card kiosk โ when you arrive, load funds onto a loyalty card using your preferred payment method. This card taps any machine to start it.
- Choose your machine โ select a washer based on your load size. A small load fits in a standard machine. Comforters, blankets, and large loads need a larger capacity machine.
- Load your laundry โ fill the drum about three-quarters full. Overfilling reduces cleaning effectiveness and can stress the machine.
- Add detergent โ add to the detergent drawer (front-load machines) or directly into the drum (top-load machines). Use the amount specified on your detergent packaging.
- Select your settings โ choose water temperature (cold for darks and delicates, warm or hot for whites and heavily soiled items) and cycle type
- Tap your loyalty card to start โ hold your card to the reader on the machine. It starts immediately.
- Move to the dryer when done โ don't leave wet laundry sitting in the washer. Move it to a dryer promptly.
- Set the dryer and tap to start โ select your heat level (low for delicates, medium for most items, high for towels and heavy cotton)
Pro tip: While your laundry is in the washer you have 25โ35 minutes free. Pull your car through our touchless automatic bay or use one of our three self-serve bays โ and both errands are done in one stop.
Common First-Timer Mistakes to Avoid
- Overfilling the washer โ clothes need room to move in the water to get clean. Three-quarters full maximum.
- Using too much detergent โ more soap does not mean cleaner clothes. Follow the package directions. Excess detergent leaves residue.
- Mixing colors on a first wash โ new dark clothing can bleed color. Wash new items separately or with similar colors the first time.
- Leaving laundry unattended too long โ be present to move your laundry to the dryer promptly. It's common courtesy to other customers.
- Overfilling the dryer โ same rule as the washer. Too full means clothes in the center won't dry properly.
